Miami defeats Cleveland State, 120.5-108.5

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami swimming and diving was back in the water for the second time this week. The RedHawks collected a 120.5-108.5 win against the Cleveland State Vikings on Saturday afternoon at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
After a loss against Purdue on Thursday, the RedHawks came back strong against CSU. Sophomore Bryan McNamara brought home two individual first-place finishes for Miami. McNamara turned in a time of 9:49.66 in the 1000-yard freestyle and a time of 4:44.59 in the 500-yard freestyle. Miami had first, second and third-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle with McNamara pacing the field with a time of 4:44.59, followed by junior Christopher Dieter (4:45.10) and senior Andrew Kilkenny (4:47.52). Dieter also earned points when he finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.15 followed by freshman Ross Westrick in second (1:42.15), sophomore Jack Strauss in third (1:42.62) and senior Michael Heavilon in fourth (1:48.73).
Westrick had a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 47.32. Clocking a time of 20.95, senior Joe Baumgartner earned another first for the RedHawks in the 50-yard freestyle followed by sophomore Lucas Brock in second (21.47).
Through the efforts of junior Sean Neri, junior Evan Bader, sophomore Matthew Rigali and Baumgartner, the men’s 400-yard medley relay placed first with a time of 3:26.39.
Rigali earned points for Miami with a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56.75. Junior Heshan Unamboowe also turned in a second-place finish the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall at 1:54.53. Kilkenny finished second in the 200-yard IM followed by Bader. Freshman Thomas Blackstone placed third in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:14.11.
Diving was back in action and made a splash with a one-two finish in the three-meter diving. With a final individual score of 324.08, junior Michael Nash finished first followed by sophomore Cole Fryman in second with an individual score of 297.75.
After a two-meet week, the RedHawks have a break until Thursday, Dec. 4, when they will host the annual Miami Invitational at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
