Tennis Snaps Skid with Sweep of No. 65 Marshall

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Miami snapped a five-game losing streak in impressive fashion Saturday, upsetting 65th-ranked Marshall, 7-0. The RedHawks won eight of nine matches overall, including all six singles ties.

Miami (3-7) actually lost the opening match as Marshall took an 8-2 decision at No. 1. But the No. 2 team of Riekie Honiball and Christine Guerrazzi and the No. 3 pairing of Nimisha Mohan and Christiana Raymond each posted 8-6 victories to put the RedHawks up 1-0.

Mohan opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 3, followed by Honiball's 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 2 to make the score 3-0. Stephanie Danesis clinched the win for Miami by winning a third-set tiebreaker, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4). Raymond also needed an extra set to put the RedHawks up 5-0, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 4. Guerrazzi cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6 before Alix Thurman completed with sweep with a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 5.

Miami returns to action tomorrow morning when it faces No. 61 Penn State. The match begins at 11:30 a.m.
