RedHawks Fall to Bowling Green Thursday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Miami University volleyball team ran into a hot Bowling Green squad as it fell, 0-3 (18-25, 18-25, 17-25), to the Mid-American Conference leading Falcons. The RedHawks are now 5-13 on the season and 0-5 in the MAC. BGSU is 9-7 overall and 5-0 in the MAC.

Bowling Green jumped ahead, 8-2, early in set one. Madison Dodd and Chelsea Visk responded with two kills apiece as Miami pulled to within five at 6-11. A 6-1 run by the Falcons would give them control of the set at 17-7. Trailing 11-23, the Red and White would not give up as a 7-1 run would cut the deficit to six at 18-24. During the run Annie Reiswig recorded a kill and teamed up with Visk on a block. However, BGSU needed only one more point and got it with a kill to take a 25-18 victory.

Trailing 4-6 in set two, a kill and service ace from Christina Menche helped the RedHawks tie the score at seven. After the Falcons scored a point, kills from Jenny Ingle and Dodd, followed by a service ace from Amy Kendall would put Miami in front, 10-8. BGSU answered with a 7-2 run to retake the advantage at 15-12. Meg Riley led the 'Hawks back with a kill and a service ace, part of a 5-2 run that gave them a 17-16 lead. Miami's attack went cold from there as the Falcons closed on a 9-1 tear to finish off a 25-18 win.

Kills from Lisa Treadway, Riley, Kendall and Menche would help lead the RedHawks to a 6-4 advantage to begin set three. Bowling Green would answer with a 5-2 run to take the lead itself at 9-8, but back-to-back kills from Treadway and Dodd put Miami right back in front, 10-9. Trailing 11-14, kills from Treadway and Riley off of assists from Kendall would help pull the Red and White to within one at 14-15. Bowling Green would get hot once again after that, going on a 10-3 run to close out a 25-17 win.

Dodd led Miami with eight kills on the match. Madison Hardy led the way with 11 digs, while Kendall had 17 assists.

The RedHawks return to action on Saturday when they host Northern Illinois at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Miami All-Access for those who have a subscription.
