Captains' Corner is a weekly update from a captain or leader of one of the RedHawks' 19 teams that will run every other Thursday throughout the academic year. Today's update is from women's indoor track and field's Hannah Tabler. Hannah is a senior from Wapakoneta, Ohio, who prepped at Wapakoneta High School. She is an architecture major. Check back on Feb. 9 for the next edition of Captains' Corner with the women's tennis team.
As a senior on the women's track and field team, I have had the experience of getting to know three different coaching staffs over the past three years. Each year we have had to overcome the challenges of building that trust between a coach and an athlete. This fall, we were joined with two new assistant coaches in Stacey Wannemacher and Brian Etelman, whom I feel to be a great asset to our team. Under Brian's coaching, our team is very well conditioned and ready for the rest of the indoor season, as well as, the upcoming outdoor season.
Although we are just three meets into the season, the team as a whole is excelling and making progress with each and every week. Our season opener at IPFW certainly displayed our overall potential as we had many first-place finishes and new personal records. This past weekend, at the Gladstein Invitational, brought lots of excitement for our team. Our 4x4 team (Diona Graves, Katie Scannell, Rachael Clay and Charlotte Myers) not only won the meet, but also set a new school record. Also, Rachael Clay won the 400m and Diona Graves the 60m. Rachael was named MAC Athlete of the Week after these outstanding performances.
After the close finish at the outdoor MAC meet last spring, the team is determined to make a comeback and shine this year. We have great competitors in every event group and are fortunate enough to have multiple athletes in each event; one of these being the pole vault (my event). I am thrilled with the way our vault season has taken off. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a dynamic group, which enables us to push and encourage each other to become the best we can be. This is a characteristic I see throughout the whole team. We've grown into a family that inspires one another and I think that's what's going to contribute the most to our success.
With the excitement from the last meet fueling our fire, we look forward to this weekend at Kentucky.
Love and Honor,
Hannah Tabler
