KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Xavier scored all four of its runs with two outs in the sixth inning Thursday to earn a 4-1 victory over the RedHawks at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The loss was the fourth straight for Miami, who fall to 4-8 on the season.
The big inning spoiled the first collegiate start of Alex Brown, who was in line for a win after throwing five scoreless innings. The freshman allowed just four hits and had only one runner reach second base.
The RedHawks had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out RBI double by Adam Weisenburger. He drove in Brad Gshwind, who had walked to lead off the inning.
But Xavier (7-6) answered right back off Matt Rosinski (0-1), who started the sixth in relief of Brown. Musketeer first baseman Ben Thomas led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. After a strikeout and wild pitch, Rosinski had Brian Bruening on an 0-2 count, but the rightfielder doubled down the left field line to put runners at second and third. Patrick Palingraf delivered an two-run single to left center to put Xavier up 3-1. An error on Miami's Kevin Bower and hit-batsman ended loaded the bases and ended Rosinski's day. On his first pitch, Brandon Adkins hit John McCambridge to complete the scoring.
Xavier starter Tyler Koors (1-1) got the win, allowing four hits in five innings. Four Musketeer relievers each pitched an inning, scattering four hits total. Seth Willoughby earned his second save of the season.
Bryce Redeker led Miami with two of the RedHawks' eight hits.
Miami returns to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Air Force.
