Final Stats
ATHENS, Ohio - The Miami University field hockey team fell to Ohio, 2-0, on Sunday. The RedHawks are now 4-9 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The Bobcats improve to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the MAC.
"Ohio was a better team in all aspects of the game today, and they fully deserve the win," said head coach Iñako Puzo. We were able to stay in the game for 65 minutes thanks to an extraordinary performance today by our goalkeeper Sarah Mueller and our deep defense, inside the 25. We have to continue to develop our presence in the offensive end and build the program as we prepare for a key MAC game at home against Ball State."
Mueller stood tall in net for Miami during a scoreless first half, making three saves. The Red and White's best scoring chance during the period came during the 33rd minute off a shot by sophomore forward Emily Gruesser. Ohio goalkeeper Jen McGill was in position to make the save, one of three she made on the day.
The Bobcats finally broke the tie in the 45th minute when Taylor Brown was able to find the back of the net on a breakaway. Gruesser and Olivia Miller would both get shots off of penalty corners as Miami looked for the equalizer, but both times McGill made the save. Ohio would put the game away in the 66th minute when Andrea Biegalski scored on a penalty corner.
Gruesser led the RedHawks with two shots. Mueller finished the day with seven saves.
Miami returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Ball State for a MAC game. It will be a rare evening game, which will start at 6 p.m.
