Miami Falls to Eastern Michigan Friday Evening

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University volleyball team ran into a tough Eastern Michigan attack, as they fell 0-3 (21-25, 18-25, 23-25) Friday night at Millett Hall. Jenn Caylor led the RedHawks with 12 kills, while Madison Hardy had 21 digs. Miami is now 12-9 overall and 3-4 in the Mid-American Conference. EMU is 16-6 overall and 4-3 in the MAC.

Caylor recorded two kills as Miami opened up a 6-4 lead to begin set one. The Eagles would fight back to tie the score at 10. It went back and forth until it was tied at 13. A 5-1 run by the RedHawks would give Miami an 18-14 lead. Eastern answered with its own 5-1 run to tie it back up at 19. The Eagles kept the run going by scoring the next three points to force a Miami timeout. Madison Dodd would score a kill off an Amy Kendall assist out of the break to make it 20-22, but EMU would score three out of the next four points to capture a 25-21 win.

Eastern jumped to a 10-5 advantage to begin set two. A service ace by Christina Menche and two kills from Dodd would help get the RedHawks a little closer at 9-13, but they could never quite close the gap. Trailing 13-18, Dodd recorded two more kills to pull the Red and White to within three at 15-18. After the teams traded the next two points, the Eagles would go on a 5-0 to make it 24-16. Miami would fight off two set points with kills by Amy Raseman and Cassie Farrell, but EMU scored the next point to earn a 25-18 victory.

After falling behind 2-7 in set three, the RedHawks would go on a 6-1 run to tie the score at eight. Eastern Michigan would once again build up a lead, but two double blocks by Raseman and Kayleigh Cox would keep Miami within striking distance. Trailing 17-20, two kills from Caylor and one from Cox would tie the set at 20 and force an Eagle timeout. Eastern would answer with the next two points, but Caylor recorded two more kills to tie it at 22. Tied at 23, EMU would grab the final two points to earn a 25-23 win and take the match in straight sets.

In addition to Caylor's 12 kills, Dodd had nine, while Raseman had eight. Kendall led the RedHawks with 19 assists.

Miami returns to action Saturday when it hosts Central Michigan at 5 p.m. The game will be available live on the RedHawks All-Access package for those with a subscription.
