INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Miami tennis team improved to 4-0 for the first time in its 37-year history Saturday with a 6-1 victory at Butler. The RedHawks won two of three doubles matches and five of six during single play to earn the victory.

After losing the doubles point last night at Cincinnati, Miami rebounded against the Bulldogs. Megan Martzolf and Stephanie Danesis remained undefeated at No. 1 with an 8-2 victory, while Anastasia Dracheva and Nimisha Mohan put the RedHawks up 1-0 with an 8-5 win at No. 3. Butler (0-1) concluded doubles play with an 8-2 win over Cara Wald and Riekie Honiball at No. 2.

With just four courts at the Butler Tennis Bubble, singles matches were played in stages, but Miami captured the first three decisions to clinch the victory. Danesis started things with a 6-4, 6-4 No. 2 victory, before No. 3 Martzolf, a senior playing in her hometown of Indianapolis, won her 27th straight dual match, 6-2, 7-5. Dracheva was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1 before the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard. Gabriella Bobrowski rallied past Honiball 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

As the early matches finished, play at No. 5 and No. 6 began. Mohan earned a 6-2, 6-3 decision, while Wald cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory.

Three previous teams had opened play 3-0.

"Overall, I was happy that the girls stepped up to get the doubles point today," Head Coach Anca Dumitrescu said. "We got the momentum early in singles and were able to close it out. It was a good weekend, and now we look forward to an even bigger challenge coming up."

Next weekend, Miami travels to Big Ten member and 30th-ranked Iowa for a Friday match, then plays Kansas State from the Big 12 in Iowa City on Saturday.
