Volleyball Sweeps Youngstown State

ANN ARBOR - The RedHawk volleyball team continued its strong play the Michigan/adidas Invitational with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15) win over Youngstown State Saturday morning. Miami improves to 4-5 overall after its third straight victory. The Penguins fall to 1-8.
Madison Dodd and Amy Raseman kept Miami in set one early with multiple kills apiece. Tied at 13, the Penguins scored the next two points to take the lead. Kills from Dodd, Madison Hardy and Kayleigh Cox helped the RedHawks retie the score at 17. From there, Miami forced Youngstown into several attack errors as it went on an 8-4 run to win the set, 25-21.
A kill from Hardy and two service aces from Jackie Lang helped the RedHawks open a 7-1 advantage to start set two. Raseman took over with four kills as Miami expanded the lead to 16-8. With the RedHawks in front, 19-12, two kills from Michele Metzler and a service ace from Michelle Mangia pushed Miami to set point at 24-15. After a service error by the RedHawks, Mangia put down a kill to give Miami the 25-16 win.
Tied at five, the RedHawks took control with a 9-1 run to take a 15-6 lead. During the stretch, Dodd recorded two kills and teamed with Metzler to put down two blocks. Dodd and Metzler continued the attack with a couple of kills as Miami eventually expanded the advantage to 21-9. That proved to be enough as the RedHawks closed out the match with a 25-15 victory.
Raseman and Dodd led the RedHawk attack with 10 kills apiece. Amy Kendall had a strong match as the setter, dishing out 33 assists. Lisa Treadway led Miami with 10 digs. Miami hit .379 for the match and held Youngstown State to a .110 hitting percentage.
Miami will play for the championship of the Michigan/adidas Invitational later Saturday when it takes on 22nd-ranked Michigan at 7:30 p.m.
