It is about a month until the athletics fields are abuzz again when the fall sports teams arrive for their preseason camps. Several sports have been hosting summer youth camps on campus, while football has also had satellite youth camps around the state and in Indiana.
Here is a breakdown of what has been happening around the Miami University Athletics Department over the last five weeks:
BASEBALL: Junior outfielder Adam Eaton was named to the 2010 ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region Second Team. (RELEASE) Eaton also was drafted in the 19th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft and now plays for the Missoula Osprey in the Rookie Pioneer League. (RELEASE) Additionally, senior pitcher Jamaal Hollis, a Chicago native, was selected in the 33rd round of the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Chicago White Sox. (RELEASE) Junior Jon Edgington earned Academic All-MAC honors. (RELEASE) Miami has been in the news with the Los Angeles Dodgers' organization as well. The Los Angeles Times profiled the 15 greatest L.A. Dodgers of all time and former Miami standout Walter Alston was No. 11 on the list. (RELEASE) A more-recent RedHawk baseball standout has made his presence felt within the Dodger organization as of late. Former pitcher John Ely made his major league debut on April 28 and has since attained a 4-5 record on the mound for the Dodgers.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: Miami graduate and former director of men's basketball operations Jimmy Lallathin was promoted to an assistant coach. (RELEASE)
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The women's basketball program was one of 12 teams and two conferences to have a grant proposal approved by the NCAA and has been awarded a grant to further market and improve the program. (RELEASE)
FOOTBALL: Miami announced game times for the 2010 home football games. Former RedHawk football standout Robbie Wilson helped the Cincinnati Commandos to a CIFL title. (RELEASE) Assistant coach KiJuan Ware participated in the NCAA's 2010 Expert Coaches Football Academy. GOLF: The Golf Coaches Association of America announced that junior Nathan Sutherland was a member of its 2010 PING All-Region teams for Division I. It was the first all-region honor of his career. (RELEASE)
HOCKEY: Rising senior Carter Camper was named captain of the hockey team for the 2010-11 season, while rising senior Andy Miele and rising juniors Alden Hirschfeld and Will Weber will serve as assistant captains. (RELEASE) Tommy Wingels signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks (RELEASE), while future RedHawk Jimmy Mullins was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. SOCCER: Rising seniors Jessica and Rachel Byron and Brooke Livingston traveled for two and a half weeks in the Himalayas in May as part of their senior capstone. (STORY) Head Coach Bobby Kramig also announced that goalkeeper Kris Gasparovic will join the RedHawk program. (RELEASE)
SOFTBALL: Three members of the softball team earned Academic All-MAC plaudits-- senior outfielder Alicia Hogl, senior shortstop Sarah Billstrom and sophomore third baseman Daniela Torres. (RELEASE)
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD: Former RedHawk runner Dan Huling made history June 27 when he won the 3000m steeplechase at the U.S. Track & Field Outdoor Championships held at Drake Stadium, as he became just the third former Miami track athlete to win a U.S. national championship. (RELEASE) Junior John Gausmann was selected to the 2010 Academic All-MAC team. (RELEASE) Head Coach Warren Mandrell also announced the addition of 11 newcomers to the roster for the 2010-11 season. WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: Senior Nicki Mitchell was named to the 2010 Women's Track & Field/Cross Country CoSIDA Division IV Academic All-District Second Team. (RELEASE) Mitchell and seniors Kelsey McHugh and Amanda Mirochna, junior Kelley Miller and redshirt sophomore Rachel Patterson were all 2010 Academic All-MAC selections.(RELEASE)

The most recent NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR) report for all NCAA Division I institutions was released in early June, and, once again, Miami University's athletic teams are in exceptional standing in all categories. (RELEASE) Estimated Loyalty Points totals are being mailed and emailed to active Miami University Red & White Club members and individuals who have previously contributed to Miami University Athletics.The Loyalty Points program will officially be implemented during the fall of 2010, and this distribution of Loyalty Point information is designed to give Red & White Club members and prospective members an idea of where they currently stand within the Loyalty Points system.
