ATHENS, Ohio - Former Miami University outfielder Adam Eaton has been named to the 2010 ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region Second Team, the American Baseball Coaches Association and NCAA Mideast Region Committee chairman Joe Carbone, the head coach at Ohio University, announced Monday.
Eaton (Springfield, Ohio), who was drafted in the 19th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft and now plays for the Missoula Osprey in the Rookie Pioneer League, was named second-team all-region in 2009, as well. The 5-foot-9 speedster also received Second-Team All-Mid-American Conference honors in 2010.
Eaton led the MAC in both triples (9) and stolen bases (30) in 2010, while ranking third in slugging (.709), fourth in on-base percentage (.462) and fifth in total bases (156). The southpaw slugger also finished the year tied for sixth in the league in runs scored with 64 and ninth in home runs with 13. His nine three-baggers set a Miami single-season record and gave him 18 for his career, which is also a school record. Eaton's 30 steals, 156 total bases, 18 doubles and 64 runs scored all also rank in Miami's single-season top 10 lists.
Eaton started 55 of Miami's 56 games in 2010, batting a team-best .368 while driving in 55 RBI. He was second on the team with both 22 multi-hit games and 13 multi-RBI games this year, including a Miami single-game record six hits against Furman Feb. 20 (second game of the season), while also scoring six runs and collecting five RBI, all career highs, with the six runs tying a MAC single-game record. Eaton was tabbed MAC Player of the Week for his efforts. He then finished his junior season on a 23-game hit streak, the third longest in Miami history.
The All-Mideast Region Teams are voted on by all the region's head coaches and Carbone, as the chairman, tallies the votes and creates the two teams. The Big Ten and Mid-American Conference were represented by 11 players each across the All-Mideast Region First and Second Teams. There were three representatives from the Horizon League and one each from the Atlantic-10 and Conference USA.
