Final Stats
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Miami softball team fell to the host Chattanooga, 6-1, Sunday in the finale of the Frost Classic. The RedHawks fall to 3-4 on the year, while the Mocs improve to 11-3.
Miami scored its run in the top of the second inning. With one out, Alicia Hogl singled up the middle. She advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Jordan McElroy singled to advance her to third. When McElroy was able to successfully steal second, the catcher threw the ball away which allowed Hogl to run home.
Meanwhile starter Jessica Simpson kept Chattanooga hitless through the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth the Mocs worked got their first two hitters on base via walks. After a flyout to centerfield advanced both baserunners, a single down the right field line brought both of them home.
Meredith Linch came in to relieve Simpson after she gave up a double to open up the bottom of the fifth, but Chattanooga was able to score two more in that frame and two in the sixth to complete the scoring.
McElroy finished the game as Miami's top hitter, going 2-for-3. Simpson pitched four innings, giving up two hits and three earned runs.
The RedHawks return to action Mar. 5-7 when they participate in the Miken Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. Miami will play two games on Friday, Mar. 5, opening with Connecticut on 11 a.m. and following it up with a game against Florida A&M at 1 p.m.
