CLEVELAND - Just one weekend into the 2010 season and the Miami University baseball team is already bringing in awards as junior outfielder Adam Eaton was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The award is Eaton's second career MAC weekly honor, as he also earned MAC East Player of the Week April 20 last year.
Eaton opened the 2010 season with a bang, going 8-for-13 (.615) at the plate in three starts, including a pair of doubles and a triple, to finish with a .923 slugging percentage. He scored seven runs this past weekend and drove in five while totaling 12 bases. The Springfield, Ohio, native was plunked three times to help him to a .688 on-base percentage in those three games and was a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases.
On Saturday against Furman, Eaton, a 2009 First-Team All-MAC selection, went a perfect 6-for-6 at the plate, scoring six runs, stealing a trio of bases and totaling five RBI, while coming a home run shy of the cycle, to help the RedHawks to a 23-5 victory for its first win of 2010. In that game, he set career highs for hits, runs, RBI and stolen bases.
The RedHawks (1-2) return to the diamond this weekend for a three-game series at Louisiana-Lafayette, starting Friday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. ET.
