Miami vs. Akron Postgame Notes February 17, 2010

Twenty of Miami's first 29 points came in the paint, and an additional seven points came off free throws where players were fouled trying to scoring in the paint. In their previous game, the RedHawks had 16 of their 64 points come in the paint. Miami finished with 36 points in the paint against the Zips.

Senior center Adam Fletcher hit double figures for the first time since the last meeting with Akron on Jan. 20 when he amassed a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Fletcher hit double figures against the Zips tonight on a banked jumper from the elbow at the 18:21 mark of the second half. He finished with 12 points.

Akron led the entire game until freshman guard Allen Roberts converted on a three-point play with 4:41 remaining to hand the RedHawks a 50-49 edge. Akron rattled off six straight points to capture a 55-50 lead, which proved to be the difference as it hung on for the 61-56 victory.

Miami continued to add to its blocked shot total. The RedHawks amassed five, moving to within one of cracking Miami's all-time single-season top five of 98 accomplished in 1994 and 2002.

Sophomore forward/center Julian Mavunga had eight rebounds in the first half, accounting for half of the RedHawks' total first-half boards. He finished with 11 rebounds, his eighth double-figure rebounding effort of the season and the 16th for the RedHawks in 2009-10.

Nine different players contributed to Akron's 29 points in the first half. Brett McKight had a team-leading six points in the first stanza. Sophomore forward/center Julian Mavunga, senior guard Kenny Hayes and senior center Adam Fletcher had six points apiece in the opening half.
