Final Stats

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- For the second straight Saturday, Miami put on an offensive clinic, exploding for a 10-2 victory over Bowling Green at the BGSU Ice Arena. A week ago, the RedHawks also topped double digits with 10 goals against Lake Superior State.

Brandon Smith and Reilly Smith each netted a pair of goals and eight other RedHawks recorded multiple points as Miami (22-4-6, 19-1-4-2 CCHA) extended its season-long winning streak to seven games and its CCHA unbeaten run to 22 in a row.

Miami took a 1-0 lead for the seventh straight game when Pat Cannone struck on the power play just 2:54 into the contest. The junior went high over the right shoulder of goalie Andrew Hammond after receiving a pass from Curtis McKenzie deep in the crease.

Less than two minutes later, Reilly Smith would be sent to the penalty box for hooking, but the whistle would work to the RedHawks' advantage. A successful Miami penalty kill led to a Smith breakaway as he was left unguarded out of the box. A crisp pass by Andy Miele found Smith free down the left side as he faked high and went low on the right side, just squeaking it into the corner of the net for the 2-0 lead.

Bowling Green came back strong later in the period on a power play of their own, but Connor Knapp was there to deny a three-shot flurry in front of the net, preserving his clean sheet.

Miami continued its dominance in the second period, as a quick outlet pass by Tommy Wingels to Chris Wideman allowed the RedHawks to gain possession in the Falcon zone. Carter Camper controlled the puck behind the net and circled out to the point for a blast at 5:24 into the period that put Miami in front 3-0. Less than a minute later it was Jarod Palmer breaking into the scoring column, sneaking a rebound past Hammond off a Miele shot just before the goal was knocked off its moorings. Down 4-0, Bowling Green went for a change in net, replacing Hammond with usual starter Nick Eno.

Already facing a penalty kill, some chippiness at the 11:20 mark sent Wingels and Alden Hirschfield to the penalty box and Bowling Green wasted no time in taking advantage of the 5-on-3 situation. Jordan Samuels-Thomas found the puck in a scrum in front of the net at 11:35 to cut the RedHawk lead to 4-1 but a Falcon turnover behind their net just moments later would lead to a Miami goal by Brandon Smith to restore the 4-goal cushion at 5-1.

With one minute left in the stanza, Palmer and Miele used some impressive stickwork to maintain possession of the puck in the BG zone. Miele found a wide-open Chris Wideman, who rocketed a shot over the shoulder of Eno to stake Miami to a 6-1 advantage.

Moments later, things got heated. A Bowling Green attacker slid into Knapp, causing a melee that resulted in 67 minutes of penalties, including a seven-minute RedHawk power play, and three ejections.

The RedHawks came out in the third period looking to finish strong. Joe Hartman extended the lead to 7-1 with a shot from the right point at 1:13. Fireworks continued as Miami Head Coach Enrico Blasi was ejected at 8:57.

But Miami just got more focused. After a Bowling Green penalty for kneeing at 11:09, it took just six seconds for Brandon Smith to score his second goal of the game, redirecting a Wideman slapshot to put the RedHawks up 8-1. About three minutes later, Vogelhuber took a feed from Miele behind the net to make it 9-1.

Bowling Green got its second goal on a shot from the point by Ian Ruel at 17:48, but Reilly Smith took a Vogelhuber feed and delivered a high shot from between the circles at 18:54 to provide the final margin of 10-2.

Miami outshot Bowling Green 32-21 for the contest with Knapp making 19 saves for the Red and White.

Miele tallied four assists, while Schilling notched three. Wingels and Cannone had two helpers each.

"I thought we came out with a purpose tonight," Head Coach Enrico Blasi said. "It would have been easy to lose focus after this week and last night's victory."

The RedHawks will return home to Steve Cady Arena next week for a two-game set with Nebraska-Omaha. Game times are set for 7:35 on Friday and 7:05 on Saturday.
