RedHawks Fall 66-51 at Wright State

FAIRBORN, Ohio -- Miami fell behind early and never recovered in a 66-51 loss at Wright State (7-5) Saturday night The RedHawks (5-6) trailed 33-23 at the half after shooting just 34.8 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes.

Julian Mavunga paved the way with 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists, all team highs. Antonio Ballard also reached double figures with 13 points.

Wright State held a four-point lead, 11-7, midway through the first half when it tallied 10 straight points to push the lead to double digits by the 9:51 mark, 21-7. Freshman guard Quinten Rollins halted the Raider rally, driving to the bucket for a layup at 9:27.

Wright State pushed its lead to 15 points off a Troy Tabler 3-pointer at 8:29, 26-11. Miami cut the Raider lead to single digits off a Mavunga tip in with 2:51 to play in the opening half, but a 3-pointer by Cooper Land less than 20 seconds later quickly put the WSU lead back in double digits. Miami scored the last bucket of the half at the 2:09 mark when Mavunga sunk a jumper, making the score 33-23 which would remain the score heading into the locker rooms at the half.

A free throw by sophomore guard Orlando Williams, a layup by Ballard and a pair of free throws from Mavunga helped close the gap to eight points by the 17:09 mark in the second half, but Miami would get no closer. The Raiders led by as many as 19 points and rolled to the 66-51 win.

Miami returns to Millett Hall to host Cincinnati at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21.
