Miami Head Coach Charlie Coles
On the win over Xavier - "A wonderful victory for our team against a worthy opponent. I don't think Xavier's hit their stride yet, they're trying to find what they've got, but they're still good."
On what the win means to his team - "This group of guys has not had what I'd call a big win. This group of guys together with (Nick) Winbush leading, (Julian) Mavunga leading. They've been in on the (Michael) Bramos victories, but Orlando (Williams), Allen Roberts. Those kids haven't had this kind of victory. So I'm very, very happy for our team."
On the team's overall play - "They hung in there tonight and they played very good. I thought we played very good basketball. W hit big shots when we had to and played good inside defense, I thought."
On the contribution from the bench - "We had different guys, Allen Roberts, Chris McHenry (contribute off the bench). This is the first game all year where our starters played well and our bench played well ââ'¬Â¦ Chris McHenry came off the bench, he hit the one three which was reasonable, and he saved us with the other three. "
On Chris McHenry's shot clock buzzer beater -"We were all hollering 'shoot' and he let it go and it kind of looked good. It kind of looked like it's got a chance. And it went in and it was just 'oh.' You know who saved that play, Antonio Ballard. He had 11 points tonight, all on hustle."
Miami Senior Forward Nick Winbush
On his feelings after the win -"That's probably one of the most satisfying wins I've had since I've been here. We beat Xavier my freshman year, but I didn't even play [in that game]. I was hurt, so I just saw what it was like, and it was great to be a part of [this game]."
On his play -"I know I didn't play well offensively in the first half, but I thought I did a good job defensively and I just thought if I play a little offense we can do something. I know I need to do a little bit. I mean Mavunga took over the game in the first half and the second half. It feels great. It was a great win for us."
Miami Junior Forward Julian Mavunga
On his preparation for the game - "The coaches told me all week 'you've got to be aggressive.' They felt as if I was wandering around the floor a little bit. Sometimes it looked like I was just out there moving. They advised me to attack more [and said] 'you're too passive sometimes.'"
On his play - "The coaches put me in the right spots, ran a lot of plays for me. Credit to my teammates definitely, because you're not going to get a good offensive night without having other good players around you."
Xavier Head Coach Chris Mack
On Miami's play - "I want to give Miami a lot of credit. Their kids were ready to play. I thought ours were, but it didn't look like it on the floor tonight. It's unfortunate, it's disappointing. When I look at the box score and see their front court ended up with 41 points and 16 rebounds between two players, that tells me a lot."
On defending Julian Mavunga - "Number one, he's a really, really good player. I thought early in the game, he was catching the ball anywhere he wanted, whether it was three feet from the basket, at the top of the key, heck, he even missed some open threes to start the game and we just didn't do our job."
