Final Stats
OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami volleyball team closed out its season with a 0-3 (17-25, 17-25, 20-25) loss to 22nd-ranked Cincinnati on Friday. The RedHawks finish their season with a 12-21 record, while the Bearcats improve to 29-5.
After falling behind 2-7 to begin set one, a double block from Colleen Loftus and Michele Metzler along with a kill from Cassie Farrell started a 4-0 rally that pulled Miami to within one point of the lead. However, Cincinnati would respond with a 14-7 run that put it in front, 21-13 and gave it control of the frame. Amy Raseman and Farrell would each record kills, but it would not be enough as the RedHawks fell, 17-25.
Two kills apiece from Metzler and Raseman gave Miami an 8-7 advantage to begin set two. The teams would trade points until it was 13-12 in favor of Miami. From there, the Bearcats would score seven straight points to take a 19-13 lead. A kill and an ace from Loftus would help break up the rally, but Cincinnati would respond by taking the final two points and earning a 25-17 victory.
Trailing 11-15 in set three, a kill and block from Farrell were part of a 5-0 run that would see Miami go in front, 16-15. The Bearcats would score the next four points to go up by three, but another kill by Farrell pulled the RedHawks to within two at 17-19. That would be as close as Miami would get, as Cincinnati would close out the match with a 6-3 run to win the final set, 25-20.
Farrell led the RedHawks with 10 kills and three blocks. Jackie Lang recorded 12 digs defensively. Metzler had five kills and a block in her final match, while fellow senior Michelle Mangia recorded five assists and two digs.
