Miami vs. SDSU Post-Game Quotes

Head Coach Charlie Coles

On Miami's post presence:
"We need to play our big guys, Drew McGee and Vince LeGarva, more because they're consistent in their efforts and play on the inside. Nick (Winbush) and Julian (Mavunga) play on the outside so much sometimes it takes away from their inside presence. Nick is more of a perimeter player but he needs to shoot more consistently."

On San Diego State as a team:
"They're a good team. They play pretty easy. They're not complicated and I think that's what we have to do. I think they play the same kind of defense Temple played last year. They have good help-side rules and let their athletes play 1-on-1. They've got what I call a smart defense. They don't waste effort but when you're ready to score they say no, we're not going to let you score. Temple did that to us in here last year."

Senior forward Nick Winbush

On SDSU's 25-0 run in the second half:
"At points we played some really good basketball, but at other points we went on droughts offensively and defensively. Basketball's a game of runs and when San Diego State made its runs, we made some runs too, but after their two big runs, we didn't get back at them after that."

On his expectations of SDSU:
"They're a really good team. We knew they'd rebound well and their strength is their forwards. I thought we played well in the first half and we knew we'd have to limit them to one shot and I thought we did a decent job of that in the first half. In the second half we had some stints where we didn't score that well or play good defense."

On the turnovers by Miami:
"Turnovers have been a problem for us so far this year. We're turning it over way too much because those are points we just don't have to give the other team. We're going to have to clear that up if we want to have success, especially in the MAC."

On the letting the game get away in the second half:
"We had a goal to win the first four minutes (of the second half) and I think we did but we couldn't carry it the whole second half. We started well but then we went on some droughts and we just can't do that."
