Senior guard/forward Antonio Ballard, who missed part of the preseason and Miami's first two regular-season games with an injury to his left hand, started for the RedHawks Saturday night. Ballard tallied 14 points and five rebounds in 21 minutes of action. Ballard took off his hand brace in the locker room at halftime and played a phenomenal second half (12 points and three rebounds).
The RedHawks (30.8%) and the Jaguars (29.6%) both struggled shooting in the first half, but recovered with better second frame numbers (61.9% and 47.8%)
IUPUI guard/forward Alex Young scored 23 points and grabbed seven boards in 40 minutes, both are season highs for Young. Miami contained the Jaguars' leading scorer, guard Leroy Nobles, to six points, but he notched a season high nine rebounds.
The first half consisted of five lead changes and IUPUI's six-point lead with 6:51 left was the largest differential of the half. IUPUI lead for nearly the entire second half; Miami took its first lead of the second half with 6:55 left on the clock. The RedHawks' six-point victory margin was the largest Miami lead of the night.
Freshman guard Quinten Rollins scored 11 points, surpassing his previous high of two points in a single game. Antonio Ballard had 14 points, while junior forward Julian Mavunga led the RedHawks in scoring and rebounds with 17 points and seven boards. It was Mavugna's his highest point total of the season and one off his career high.
Senior forward Nick Winbush amassed a career-high four steals against the Jaguars. His is Miami's leader in steals after snagging three against Duke and three against IUPUI in Miami's first two games of the season.
