Miami vs. IUPUI Postgame Quotes

Nov. 21, 2010

Recap | Box Score | Notes

Miami Senior Forward/Guard Antonio Ballard
On coming back after sitting out the last two games and part of the preseason with a hand injury: "I feel like I can bring a lot to the team just because of the energy. We all feed off of each other. We all just try to get each other going. I'm a senior, so I want to try to motivate my team as much as I can, and I just try to contribute as much as I can. Sitting out for a while is a pain, but you notice so much while you're out. I tried playing with that (what he noticed) some and going slower than I normally would and it seemed to work, but coming back is awesome and it feels good. I'm glad to be back!"

On taking off his hand brace in the middle of the game: "I decided to take off my brace, and I was doing what I normally do like rebounding and trying to go to the basket. I didn't necessarily notice a difference, I just took it off and played. I didn't really think about it."

Miami Freshman Guard Quinten Rollins
On adjusting to the defense: "It was kind of tough, but once I got through the first few minutes it was easy to adjust and to see what kind of defense they were running. We knew they were going to play zone."

On his season high for scoring: "The coaches always tell us in practice to always be prepared for that open shot because the defense is always going to play me honest. At the end of the day, it's not about points for me. I just want to play defense and run our offense, and if I get the opportunity for open shots to take them."

Miami Head Coach Charlie Coles
"That was one tough, highly-competitive game. It was a total team victory. We are just not able to keep a good rhythm yet. We have played teams that have came in with some good game plans at home. About one of the only things we told our guys is that we want to score inside, because we have not been scoring inside at all."

"We knew we wouldn't be as precise on the perimeter, because we knew the game was going to be tight fisted, which are tough games to shoot from the outside in. This game was possession for possession. It was tic-tac, who can do what; it ended up a one-point game, so what we wanted to do was really to score inside."

On Miami's turnovers: "We can't continue to turn over the ball like we are; it's not good. It comes from us not having a junior or senior point guard. We really need to work on it."

IUPUI Head Coach Ron Hunter
"I'm proud of my guys, we didn't play exceptionally well. This is a very difficult place to play, but I'm proud of them I thought we did some good things. Some of our seniors didn't really step up and play the way that they are capable of. When we are on the road it's a difficult process, but by the end the team is going to be a good basketball team."

"This is a process. I needed to see this today. I had a lot of questions about the basketball team and a lot of them got answered today. This is a tough place to play, and I think this group by the end of the day is going to be really good. We learned a lot and we got better today and I think that's what it's important."
