RedHawks Fall to Sixth Ranked Ohio State

Oct. 7, 2010

Final Stats

COLUMBUS, Ohio - An aggressive offensive attack from one of the nation's best teams proved to be too much to overcome for the Miami field hockey team as it fell 5-1 to sixth-ranked Ohio State. The RedHawks drop to 8-4 overall, while the Buckeyes improve to 9-3.

Four first half goals by Ohio State gave the Buckeyes an advantage they would not relinquish. Ohio State outshot Miami, 9-4, during the period.

In the second half the teams played much more even. The Buckeyes made it 5-0 off a goal in the 40th minute, but the RedHawks responded in the 57th minute when Kelsey Lund was able to get ahold of the loose ball and beat the goalkeeper from the right portion of the goal.

Sarah Mueller stayed strong in the net, especially in the second half. She ended up with eight saves on Ohio State's 13 shots on goal. Jackie Nguyen led Miami with two shots on goal.

The RedHawks continue play against ranked Big Ten teams when they take on 15th-ranked Michigan on Friday at 4 p.m. in Ann Arbor.
