OXFORD, Ohio -- Miami women's swimming and diving celebrated Homecoming by winning the first event and never surrendering the lead en route to a 193-67 win Saturday afternoon at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center at the Miami Recreational Sports Center.
The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomores Leah Thornton and Bekka Westrick and seniors Nicole Roddenbery and Kelsey Vehr opened the meet with a win by almost seven seconds over the closest Musketeer team, turning in a time of 1:45.73. The win set the tone for the rest of the meet as the RedHawks went on to win 12 of the 14 total events.
Miami spread the wealth throughout the team as 10 different swimmers won at least one individual event. Thornton and Westrick each won an individual event apiece in addition to their relay win, taking first in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, respectively. Sophomore Stacie Clagg led the RedHawks with two individual wins and a second place finish. Clagg set a new career-best time in her 200-yard IM victory, touching in 2:10.82. She also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:22.98 and finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.65) behind senior Megan Brunn.
Other RedHawk individual winners were sophomores Mandi Grandjean and Jenny Warmolts, juniors Chelsey Bruington, Kelsey Mallon and Sarah Radke and senior Miranda Kaltenborn.
