Final Stats

OXFORD, Ohio - Michele Metzler and Colleen Loftus each recorded 11 kills, but Miami fell, 0-3 (18-25, 15-25, 24-26), to Ball State on Friday night. The RedHawks are now 7-15 overall and 2-7 in the Mid-American Conference. The Cardinals are 17-4 overall and 7-2 in the MAC.

Miami took an early 3-1 lead off kills from Loftus and Cassie Farrell, along with a double block from Metzler and Amy Kendall. An 11-6 run by Ball State gave the Cardinals the lead at 12-9. The RedHawks fought back with a double block from Kendall and Farrell, and an ace by Lisa Treadway to trail by one at 12-13. Trailing 17-21, Loftus tried to keep Miami in it with a kill off of Kendall's assist, but Ball State answered with four consecutive points to take the set, 25-18. The Cardinals took control of set two early, jumping to a 10-2 advantage.

Two kills from Metzler helped spark the RedHawks on an 8-4 run that pulled them within four at 10-14. Ball State would answer with an 8-2 run of its own to establish a 22-12 lead. That would prove to be enough as the Cardinals took the second set, 25-15.

Set three proved to be a back-and-forth affair that featured 14 ties and seven lead changes. Tied at nine, a 4-2 run by the RedHawks that featured kills from Kendall, Farrell and Metzler, gave Miami the lead at 13-11. Ball State would score the next five points to take a three point lead, but the RedHawks would respond by grabbing the next four points to take the advantage back at 17-16. With the score tied at 21, a 3-1 run gave the Cardinals match point at 24-22. Miami would fight off two match points as Amy Raseman and Metzler teamed up for the block, and then Raseman put down a kill. The comeback was not to be however, as Ball State would take the next two points to earn a 26-24 win.

Metzler's 11 kill day featured a .550 hitting percentage. Treadway led the RedHawks with 14 digs, while Kendall recorded 31 assists. Miami hit .259 for the match, while Ball State hit .367.

The RedHawks continue action at Millett Hall on Saturday when they welcome Toledo for a 5 p.m. match.
