FAIRBANKS, Alaska -- Jarod Palmer was the only player to enjoy success in the shootout, lifting Miami to a bonus point after a 1-1 CCHA tie at Alaska Friday night. Pat Cannone scored the regulation goal for the RedHawks, who extended their CCHA unbeaten streak to 15 games.
Cody Reichard made 20 saves, including four in overtime and one in the shootout, while Tommy Wingels and Carter Camper were credited with assists.
Alaska jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a power play late in the first period. With 28 seconds left in the stanza, Dion Knelson picked up a loose puck on the left side and threw a behind-the-back pass to a streaking Aaron Gens at the back post. The teams combined for just 10 shots in the period with Miami's four being its second-lowest in a period this season.
Miami (15-4-6, 12-1-4-2) evened the game with a power-goal of its own at 2:52 of the second. Cannone wristed a shot from the goal line to the far corner after a pass by Wingels out front. Camper started the play at the far point.
In the overtime, which started with 1:16 of Nanook power play, both teams had chances, including a breakaway by Curtis McKenzie that Scott Greenham saved. The RedHawks were credited with two official attempts in the extra session.
"It was a tough game," Head Coach Enrico Blasi said. "We played hard and they played well. Anytime you go to overtime it's anybody's game. Cody played well and we picked up an extra point."
Alaska (10-7-6, 7-7-5-4) entered the contest having won all four of its previous shootouts this season.
The two teams conclude the series tomorrow night with a 7:05 p.m. AT (11:05 p.m. ET) faceoff at the Carlson Center.
