Final Stats

CHILICOTHE, Ohio - The No. 5 seed Miami RedHawks battled hard, but fell 12-8 to No. 4 seed Kent State in an elimination game at the Mid-American Conference baseball tournament Friday afternoon. The Golden Flashes move onto the championship game, while the RedHawks finish their season 30-25.

Miami got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Chris Nadeau hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Adam Eaton to score from third. The lead would be short lived, as Kent State answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning.

The RedHawks put three more runs on the board in the top of the second with one swing of the bat. After Brad Gschwind and Jon Edgington each reached base via a walk, Eaton came up and slammed his 11th home run of the year over the right field fence to put Miami up 4-1. Again that lead would also be short lived, as the Golden Flashes scored four runs on four hits in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-4 advantage of their own.

After Kent State scored four more in the bottom of the fourth to push its lead to 9-4, the RedHawks answered with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. With Jordan Petraitis on base after a single down the left field line, Nadeu hit a two-run home run out to right field that pulled Miami to within three at 9-6.

That would be the closest the RedHawks would get, as the Golden Flashes scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to put the game away. Miami did manage to score single runs in the seventh and ninth innings however. In the top of the seventh Eaton scored on a Kent State wild pitch. In the top of the ninth Petraitis homered in his final at bat as a RedHawk, his eighth of the season.

Eaton was the star at the plate going 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. In their final time in a Miami uniform, Petraitis and Nadeau each also had fine games. Petraitis was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Nadeau was 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored.

Notes: With his single to right in the first inning Adam Eaton has reached base safely in 45 consecutive games ââ'¬Â¦ Eaton stole his 28th base of the season in the first inning to tie him for fourth in Miami's single season record book, matching the mark of Jason Armetta ('94) and Mickey Tresh ('86) ââ'¬Â¦ Matt Rosinski extended his single season record for appearances (34) coming in relief of Kyle Donawerth with two outs in the sixth ââ'¬Â¦ Rosinski would be quickly tied for the record for appearances (34) in a single season as Sam Dawes matched the mark when he relieved Rosinski with one out in the in the bottom of the seventh ââ'¬Â¦ With his single in the top of the eighth inning, Brad Gschwind extended his hitting streak to 19 consecutive games. The streak is the longest by a RedHawk this season. Chris Nadeau also extended his hitting streak to a season- high 12 games ââ'¬Â¦ With his home run in the top of the ninth inning Jordan Petraitis equaled his highest home run total in a single season with eight.
