HAMILTON, Ohio -- Miami continued to roll through the women's tennis season Friday, winning its sixth straight match, 7-0 over Eastern Michigan at Riverside Athletic Club. The RedHawks swept five of the nine matches and dropped just 14 games total.
The RedHawks improved to 10-6 overall and 5-0 in Mid-American Conference play with their third fourth sweep of the season, while Eastern Michigan (3-15, 0-6) dropped its eighth in a row. Miami is the lone remaining undefeated team in league play after Western Michigan lost 4-3 at Buffalo on Friday.
The doubles point was decided in just over 30 minutes. The first two matches were completed just seconds apart as teams of Stephanie Danesis and Megan Martzolf and Riekie Honiball and Brintney Larson both dispatched their opponents 8-0. The No. 2 doubles match took a tad longer as Monica Gorny and Anastasia Dracheva opened a 7-0 lead before Eastern Michigan won its only game in an 8-1 defeat.
Three of the six singles matches were shutouts as Dracheva (No. 2), Matzlolf (No. 4) and Honiball (No. 6) each won 6-0, 6-0, while Larson posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5. Monica Gorny won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles before No. 3 Stephanie Danesis overcame a slow start to complete the sweep with a 7-5, 6-3 win.
"Our kids continue to compete hard and we are playing better and better," Head Coach Howard Joffe said. "We have a tough match tomorrow though against Toledo and we are looking forward to the challenge."
Miami concludes its regular season at 1 p.m. tomorrow when it hosts the Rockets. The match will be conducted at Withrow Courts.
