Miami Rally Comes up Short against Colonels

RICHMOND, Ky - The RedHawk baseball team scored five runs over the final four innings against Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday but it was not enough as the Colonels picked up the win, 9-6, in Turkey Hughes Field.
Zak Hatfield (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and, current MAC player of the week, Tommy Nurre (Cincinnati, Ohio) homered in the sixth and seventh respectfully but it was not enough to bring the RedHawks back after Miami gave up seven runs in the fourth inning.
Eastern Kentucky took the lead in the bottom of third on a sacrifice fly to center by Tyler Rehmel of Eastern Kentucky bringing home Matt Davis from third. Miami even the score in the top of the fourth when Jon Edgington (Cincinnati, Ohio) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Colonels blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring seven runs on seven hits. Hatfield hit a solo homerun in the sixth to cut the lead to six but Eastern Michigan pushed the margin back to seven in the bottom of the inning when Joey Stevens walked with the bases loaded.
Miami's last push to rally came in the fourth when the RedHawks were able to score four runs on two hits highlighted by a Nurre solo homerun to left center.
Miami will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Xavier to take on the Musketeers at Hayden Field at 3 p.m.
