RedHawks Defeat Xavier, Fall to Louisville

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami women's swimming and diving team beat Xavier 147.5-114.5 and lost to Louisville 164-130 in a pair of split squad meets Saturday afternoon. The team sent 14 swimmers and four divers to Louisville while keeping the rest of the team in Oxford to face Xavier at the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.
In Oxford, the RedHawks were in a tight battle in the first half of the meet. Xavier took an early lead, winning the opening event, but Miami quickly tied the score at 19-19 thanks to sophomore Lauren Wallace's first career win, touching the wall in 11:01.83 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
The RedHawks took the lead in the following event, the 200-yard freestyle on freshman Molly Tyler's first collegiate victory with a time of 1:57.73.
The Musketeers hung with the RedHawks, winning the 100-yard backstroke and breaststroke, cutting the Miami lead to 48-47. Miami seized control of the meet in the 200-yard butterfly thanks to a 1-2 finish by Kelsey Mallon (2:09.92) and Taylor Koplow (2:10.15).
Sophomore Jordan Koletic, freshman Stacie Clagg, redshirt freshman Brittney Rohr joined the list of first-time winners. Koletic won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle with times of 24.98 and 54.28, respectively.
Clagg tied for the win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.83). She also finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke and 400-yard IM.
Rohr was first in the 200-yard butterfly (58.25).
Junior Katherine Reinmann was the RedHawks final event winner with a time of 2:13.86 in the 200-yard backstroke.
In Louisville, the RedHawks faced Cardinal team that finished 22nd last season at the NCAA Championships.
Freshman Maegan O'Connor won her first collegiate event with a time of 2:05.84 in the 200-yard butterfly and senior Kasey Carpenter won the 200-yard backstroke (2:04.34) to lead the RedHawks.
Coach Dave Jennings's RedHawks open Mid-American Conference action next weekend, Oct. 30-31 at home against Buffalo and Akron at 5 p.m. and 1 p.m.
