KENT, Ohio -- Margarita Porgorelov finished first in the 60- and 200-meter dashes and Hope Alexander and Kristen Mathews also won their events as Miami swept past the competition at the Kent State Duals Friday night.
The RedHawks defeated Kent State 77-72, Ohio 86-65 and Youngstown State 90-57 in a format where the top two performers from each team scored points.
Porgorelov ran the 60 in 7.71 seconds, then followed with a season-best time of 25.35 in the 200. Alexander posted her mark of the year, 11.85 meters (38-feet, 10.5-inches) to win the triple jump, while Mathews won the high jump with another personal season best, 1.67 meters (5-feet, 5.75-inches).
Miami also won the 4x400-meter relay with Betsy Allen, Nicki Mitchell, Ruth Rasch and Rachael Clay running 3:57.43.
"Winning dual meets against our conference competition gives us insight into how we perform as a team and how we can improve going forward," Head Coach Rita Arndt-Molis said. "We have three consecutive weeks of competition ahead and I'm looking forward to the women finding their rhythm in competition. We've done a good job of establishing base marks and an overall competitive approach, but now it's time to build upon those marks and put our team in a position to win a conference title."
The RedHawks dominated in the distance events again, with 2-3 finishes in the mile and 800. Amanda Mirochna was second in both races (2:18.34 and 5:03.22) with Olivia Klaus third in the 800 (2:20.14) and Kelly Miller third in the mile (5:07.26)
Allen and Clay were second and fourth, respectively, in the 400. Katelyn Kelly was third in the high jump at 1.62 meters (5-feet, 3.75-inches), while Sarah Kinnaman ties for second in the pole vault (3.35 meters/10-feet, 11.75-inches).
Magda Wikar and Alexis Lape were second and third in the long jump, while Lape was also third in the triple jump.
Miami will split its teams next week with middle distance and distance runners going to the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame, while the sprinters, jumpers and throwers compete at Kentucky's Rod McCravy Classic.
