OXFORD, Ohio--Ohio women's collegiate swimming and diving's version of the Super Bowl takes place Saturday afternoon (Jan. 24) at 1 p.m. with the annual battle between Miami University and Ohio University.
Coach Dave Jennings's RedHawks, ranked No. 1 in the CollegeSwimming.com Women's Mid-Major Poll and the lone undefeated team in MAC dual meets, faces Coach Greg Werner's No. 9 Bobcats at MU's Nixon Aquatic Center. In the Mid-American Conference's preseason coaches' poll, Ohio was picked to finish first while Miami was chosen as the runner-up. Miami (8-1, 4-0 MAC) has won eight consecutive dual meets and its own Invitational, while Ohio (5-2, 2-2) has been victorious in five straight duals.
Last year, the Bobcats took first in 11 of the 16 events and beat Miami, 186-114, in Athens.
"This promises to be a very exciting meet," said Jennings. "Ohio beat us last year, so we'll have to swim at a top level to be able to compete with them. We need a big crowd on Saturday to cheer on our team."
Miami's Sarah Bullock, who registered 500- and 1650-freestyle victories last Friday vs. Cincinnati, was honored as the MAC's Swimmer of the Week. She joins previous RedHawk honorees Kasey Carpenter (Oct. 28), Allison Stevens (Nov. 11) and Malarie Schmidt (Dec. 10).
