Miami Women's Swimmers Defeat Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Sophomore distance freestyler Sarah Bullock (Louisville, KY) won the 500 freestyle and the 1650 free, and led Miami University's women's swimming and diving team past rival Cincinnati, 181.5 to 112.5. The RedHawks improved their dual meet record during the 2008-09 season to 8-1.
Bullock took the 500 free in a time of 5:07.71 to lead a 1-2-3-4 Miami finish in that event. Her 1650 clocking of 17:16.73 beat runner-up and teammate Jenn Flaherty (Scarborough, ME).
Senior Allison Stevens (Laurel, MD) won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races in respective times of :52.79 and 1:53.03.
Other Miamians winning individual events included: Malarie Schmidt (Sr., Batavia, IL) in the 100 backstroke (:58.74); Kelsey Vehr (So., Cincinnati) in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.83); Taylor Koplow (Carmel, IN) in the 200 butterfly (2:09.90); Alyson Schmidt (Maineville, OH) in the 50 freestyle (:24.15); Megan Brunn (Mansfield) in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.67); Kelsey Anagnos (St. Louis, MO) in the one-meter diving (295.05 pts), and Melissa Roemmele (Lexington, KY) in the three-meter diving (291.15 pts).
Miami's 400 medley relay team of Malarie Schmidt, Vehr, Allison Way (Omaha, NE) and Alyson Schmidt clocked in at 3:54.18 to win that event.
"Sarah Bullock was real strong in the distance freestyle events tonight," said Miami head coach Dave Jennings, "and I thought Melissa Roemmele and Kelsey Anagnos did a nice job in the diving events. We've got things to work on, but we got the job done tonight."
Miami entertains Ohio next Saturday afternoon at the Nixon Aquatic Center at 1 p.m.. There is no admission charge.
