Miami University Athletic Director Brad Bates and Vice President for University Advancement Jayne Whitehead announced today the hiring of former RedHawk softball standout, Leslie Macedo, to the position of Development Associate for Intercollegiate Athletics.
"Leslie represents the very best in Miami Athletics - scholar, captain, athletic record-holder, server, alum, Champion, leader - to our staff. In addition, as an alum she brings the wealth of attributes acquired through her Miami experience to our department in arguably one of our most essential areas," Bates said. We are privileged to have her join our staff as she will be an extraordinary asset to our programs, department and University.
As the Development Associate, Macedo's responsibilities will include coordinating Miami's annual fund efforts through the Red and White Club, including solicitation and fulfillment, and she will have a pool of major gift prospects. She will also help energize giving from Miami's young alumni to athletics, and will serve as a liaison to the Miami University Alumni Association and former Miami varsity student-athletes.
"Leslie is a key addition to our development team during a critical time in our capital campaign efforts," Whitehead said. "She is genuine, professional and mature and will do an exceptional job of articulating her student-athlete experiences with donors, fans and alumni while actively engaging with them. We are excited she is on board and are looking forward to her providing additional stability in athletic development and to her helping us reach new heights."
"As a Miami student-athlete I was blessed with the opportunity to receive a Miami education, paired with the priceless experience of being a collegiate athlete," Macedo said. "I am excited to join the development staff, and I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to help expand the resources available to current and future Miami student-athletes."
During her career as a player, Macedo was a captain of the softball team, helping lead the team to a Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship in 2005, and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in school history.
She holds Miami's all-time record for runs batted in with 105 during her four-year career, and ranks among the Top-five in school history in at-bats (629, third), runs (86, tied-fourth), doubles (35, second), and home runs (15, fourth).
A native of Livermore, Calif., Macedo earned her Bachelor's degree in health and sport studies from Miami in 2007.
