Box Score

OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University's baseball team rebounded from a mid-week loss to Indiana last week by defeating the Indiana Hoosiers, 11-4, at McKie Field at Hayden Park Wednesday evening. 10 players collected hits for Miami (8-21), while Indiana (14-13) committed five errors in the loss.

Miami got on the board in the first inning as consecutive two-out hits produced two Miami runs. Junior Chris Nadeau belted a two-out double over the right fielder's head and junior Tommy Nurre followed by launching a home run to center field to give Miami a 2-0 cushion. The home run was Nurre's third of the season.

The Hoosiers got one run back in the second inning as Michael Earley stole second base and then scored on a slicing two-out double into the right-center field gap. Earley advanced to third base on a wild pitch, before being thrown out at home on a wild pitch to end the inning, sending Miami into the bottom half of the second inning with a 2-1 lead.

Miami tacked on another two-spot in the second inning as a one-out triple by freshman Jon Edgington put a runner in scoring position with less than two outs. During the next at-bat, senior Evan Armitage was hit by a pitch and then Armitage stole second base to place two runners in scoring position with one out. A wild pitch plated Edgington and moved Armitage to third base. Junior Jordan Petraitis drew a walk to place runners on the corners and Armitage was able to score as the Hoosier pitcher committed a throwing error trying to keep Petraitis close to first base, which upped Miami's lead to 4-1.

Indiana produced two-out runs in the fourth inning to climb within one run of Miami. Consecutive two-out singles put runners on first and second base, before consecutive wild pitches plated one run and left a runner on third base with two outs. A successful safety squeeze by David Trager brought in another Hoosier run as Indiana closed within one run, 4-3.

After hitting his first career home run on Sunday, April 6, Nadeau delivered another home run in the fourth inning. On a 2-0 count, Nadeau hit a towering blast down the right field line pushing Miami's lead to 5-3.

Miami extended its lead to 8-3 with a three-run fifth inning. Junior Eric Darlage led things off with a walk, before being replaced by freshman pinch-runner, Kevin Sakofs. Junior J.D. Mynhier singled through the right side to put runners on first and second base. Both runners moved up ninety feet on a failed pick-off attempt by the catcher and Sakofs touched home plate, while Mynhier moved to third, on a ground ball by freshman Adam Eaton. Mynhier scored on a sacrifice fly by Edgington, increasing Miami's margin to four runs, 7-3. Armitage drew a walk, stole second base and then advanced to third base as the attempted pick-off throw from the Indiana catcher went into center field. Petraitis lined a RBI single into center field to push Miami's advantage to 8-3.

A lead-off single by freshman John Hornke helped tack on two more runs in the sixth inning. Hornke singled through the right side to get things started, before moving to second base on a slow grounder to the second baseman. Hornke moved up ninety feet on a wild pitch and with the infield in, Mynhier hit a seeing-eye single up the middle to score Hornke. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Miami and another walk to Armitage allowed another Miami run to cross home plate. Petraitis drove in another walk after drawing Miami's fourth run in a row, which pushed Miami's lead to 11-3.

Indiana scored one run in the eighth inning, but that would be final run scored as Miami defeated Indiana, 11-4.

Nadeau and Hornke had three hits apiece to lead Miami and seven players recorded at least one RBI for the RedHawks.

Miami hits the road for a three-game series in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. this weekend against Central Michigan. Friday's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and Saturday's and Sunday's games are slated to start at 1 p.m.
