Miami Coach Charlie Coles
"It's very important for us to have some energy when we start out. That's what we struggled with about three weeks ago. We were able to play a pretty good game from start to finish. Toledo was coming off a very emotional win against Kent State. We're hoping this is what we're going to do every game from here on out." "The biggest stat for us tonight was that we had 21 assists on 32 baskets. That's a great percentage. That's what we were getting really early in the year. That means guys are moving and looking for each other."
Miami's Tim Pollitz
"We really focused on our defense tonight. Our game plan was to switch on guys one through four, then just get through with the five guy. Most of their guys just want to drive, drive, drive. For the most part, we did a real good job of cutting off the middle and forcing them to take some tough shots. We've been focusing on that a lot. Before these past four or five games, it wasn't Miami at all. We were eleventh in the league (in defensive field goal percentage), and, lately, we've been really focusing hard on our defensive style of play."
Toledo Coach Stan Joplin
"There's no doubt we're short on talent. You don't have to be Stevie Wonder to figure that out. We don't have a point guard in the program right now. We go with three freshmen and a walk-on (Anthony Byrd), and he's playing pretty well for me. We have no margin of error. At home, we're OK, but on the road we don't have the mental toughness we need when adversity sets in. We aren't even close to the team we had last year." "Coming into the game, I was really concerned about (Michael) Bramos. He gives Miami a different option. (Tim) Polllitz is Pollitz. I don't think we made him work tonight. He's a very tough match-up because he's relentless. It's tough for us because we don't have a point guard who can stay in front of (Kenny) Hayes. We weren't in sync, but it had more to do with Miami than us. You have to give them credit."
