OXFORD, Ohio--Senior diver Chris Heaton joined in on the record-breaking fun at the 15th Annual Miami Invitational, setting Mid-American Conference (MAC), varsity, pool and meet records in the three-meter diving competition Saturday night at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
Coach Pete Lindsay's RedHawks placed third in the men's team standings. Oakland University finished first with 1,888.5 points, while Denison was second (1,604) and Miami notched third (1,427). Wright State, Cincinnati and Emory rounded out the standings.
"For Chris to break the MAC record was a marvelous achievement," said Lindsay. "He consistently hit dive after dive. As far as the rest of the team, I am pleased that our depth continues to improve. Our rookies and sophomores are lighting it up."
Freshmen divers JIM BERES and Cameron Horner placed second and third, respectively, behind Heaton in the three-meter event.
In the 200-yard backstroke, Miami sophomore Darin Smith placed third behind Marcin Unold and Patrick Downing of Oakland.
Miami's men's swimmers are now idle until January 16 when they and the RedHawk women's teams travel to compete against the University of Cincinnati.
