Allison Stevens (Laurel, MD) won three events and Kelsey Anagnos (St. Louis, MO) swept both diving events as Miami's swimming and diving squad topped Bowling Green, 182-116, at the Nixon Aquatic Center. The victory improved Miami's dual meet record in Mid-American Conference competition to a perfect 4-0. The RedHawks are 6-1 overall.
The action began positively with Miami's 400-yard medley relay team of junior Kasey Carpenter (Cincinnati), freshman Kelsey Vehr (Cincinnati), sophomore Nicole Roddenbery (Peachtree, GA) and Stevens clocking a first-place time of 3:56.66.
In event three, senior Alyson Schmidt (Maineville) took first in the 200 freestyle with a personal record of 1:54.60, with Carpenter right behind at 1:56.28.
In the 100 backstroke, sophomore Megan Brunn (Mansfield) won top honors in a time of 1:05.41.
Miami went 1-2 in event seven, the 50 free, with Stevens finishing first at :24.03 and sophomore Carly Gibson (Silver Spring, MD) placing second with a PR of :24.62.
In the 100 freestyle, senior Malarie Schmidt (Batavia, IL) sprinted to victory with a PR of :52.65. Teammates Jordan Koletic (Fr., Matthews, NC) also had a PR of :53.70, while Jennifer Nemeth (Sr., Highland Heights) placed third at :54.04. That 1-2-3 finish vaulted Miami to a 93-57 lead halfway through the meet.
The RedHawks' Anagnos, Melissa Roemmele (Sr., Lexington, KY) and Rachel Smith (Jr., Amsterdam, NY) placed 1-2-3, respectively, in the one-meter diving event. The trio duplicated its 1-2-3 finish in the three-meter diving competition.
Event nine, the 100 free, saw another 1-2-3 finish for Miami. Malarie Schmidt took first (:52.65), followed by Koletic (:53.70) and Nemeth (:54.04).
In the 200-yard breaststroke, senior Paige Iversen (New Hope, PA) posted a time of 2:24.74. It was her first victory of the season.
Vehr and sophomore Allison Way placed first and second in the 500 freestyle, charting respective times of 5:10.25 and 5:11.49.
Stevens won her third event of the day in the 100 butterfly, clocking a time of :57.52. Gibson and Alyson Schmidt finished in second and third place.
Other personal bests were posted on Saturday by Lauren Wallace (Columbus, OH) in the 1000 free (10:43.56), Chelsey Bruington (Mission Viejo, CA) in the 100 backstroke (:59.78), Malarie Schmidt in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.44), and Way in the 1000 free (10:47.94).
Miami's next competition is on Friday, November 14, at Kenyon.
