RedHawk Women's Tennis Team Dominates Ball State Fall Invitational

MUNCIE, Ind.--Miami University's women's tennis team had a strong showing at the Ball State Fall Invitational, winning championships in Flight A, B, C and D singles and Flight C doubles. There was no team scoring at the event.
Sophomore Brintney Larson and freshman Megan Martzolf each advanced to the finals in the Flight A winners bracket with Larson picking up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Martzolf in the final match. Larson picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win against Dayton's Megan Gray and then defeated Butler's Molly Casperson 4-6, 6-1 (10-2) before advancing to the final match off a 6-1, 6-1 win against Northern Illinois' Katie Friedlund. Martzolf cruided to 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 wins in her first two matches before outlasting IPFW's Amy Recht 0-6, 7-6 (4), 10-0 to advance to the Flight A finals.
Senior Kelly Douple capture the Flight B winners bracket. She defeated Northern Illinois' Brooke Forsberg 6-1, 6-2 and then downed Butler's Tiffany McLoughlin 6-1, 6-2 before defeating Ball State's Georgina Thomson 6-1, 4-6 (7) to advance to the championship match where she defeated Butler's Becky Jenkins 4-6, 6-1 (5). Additionally, freshman Cara Wald advanced to the consolation bracket finals, falling to NIU's Forsberg 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Kristen McPhillips cruised through the Flight C singles winner's bracket, defeating IPFW's Hanna Hager 6-0, 6-0, UW-Milwaukee's Jenna Felsher 6-3, 6-1 and Ball State's Jennifer Pollack 6-4, 6-2 before topping Ball State's Hayley Hall 6-3, 6-1 in the championship match.
Sophomore Jessica Linden took the Flight D singles title. She defeated IPFW's Alexa Rang 6-1, 6-0, Dayton's Erin Wilkie 6-0, 6-1 and Dayton's Molly Mathews 6-2, 6-2 before downing Northern Illinois' Dora Delgadillo 6-2, 6-2 in the championship match.
In doubles action, the tandem of McPhillips/Linden won Flight C off an 8-1 win over IPFW, and 8-4 win against Butler and downing Northern Illinois' Flight C doubles team 8-2 to capture the winner's bracket.
The team of junior Ashley Young and sophomore Lauren Hofmann won the consolation bracket of Flight D doubles, posting an 8-6 win over the Dayton double's team in the final match.
Miami returns to action at the Cincinnati Fall Invitational Oct. 5-7.
