GLOUCESTER, Mass. - Capping a banner year for the Miami University ice hockey team, junior Nathan Davis (Rocky River, Ohio) has been named to the RBK/American Hockey Coaches Association West All-America Second Team, as the AHCA announced the national awards late Friday evening. It is the first career all-America honor for Davis and marks the fourth straight season a Miamian has garnered all-America accolades.
One of 10 Hobey Baker finalists, Davis led the RedHawks with 50 points, tallying career highs in both goals (21) and assists (29). Named to the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's all-league second team and tabbed as the CCHA's best defensive forward, Davis finished fourth in the CCHA in overall scoring and had 15 multi-point games. Dominant in Miami's victories this season, Davis had at least one point in 20 of his team's 24 wins and had multiple points in 13 of those triumphs.
Davis' best game of the season came with a career-best five-point effort in a win over Northern Michigan on Nov. 3, and among his other multi-point efforts was a three-goal performance, including a pair of shorthanded tallies, which helped Miami snap a 20-game losing streak at Michigan on Oct. 20. Earlier this season Davis became the 38th member of Miami's 100-Point Club and enters his senior season tied for 26th on the program's career scoring list with 114 points.
With Davis as a vital cog, Miami (24-14-4; 16-8-4 CCHA) qualified for its second straight NCAA Tournament and won the first tournament game in program history. In their NCAA Tournament opener, the fourth-seeded RedHawks downed top-seeded New Hampshire, 2-1, to advance to the program's first regional final. Under head coach Enrico Blasi, Miami has advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three of the past four seasons.
Davis was one of seven players from the CCHA named to the West All-American team. The conference placed three players on the first team and four, including Davis, on the second team.
