MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Miami RedHawks fell 4-0 to the Boston College Eagles in the Northeast Regional Final Sunday afternoon. Two RedHawks - junior forward Ryan Jones and junior defenseman Mitch Ganzak - were named to the Northeast Regional All-Tournament Team.

The first period became one of penalties as the two teams racked up a combined 29 minutes. It all started 3:01 into the first stanza as Miami senior forward Marty Guerin was whistled for a five-minute major and a 10-minute game misconduct for hitting from behind. What could have been a very tough situation for the Miami penalty kill unit that held New Hampshire 0-for-7 yesterday was lessened by two straight Boston College penalties that limited the Eagles to just over one minute of the man advantage. During the five minutes of Guerin's major, BC was limited to just two shots on net. Sophomore netminder Jeff Zatkoff still impressed, turning aside all eight shots in the opening frame. The RedHawks out shot the Boston College Eagles, 12-8.

The second period started out as a back-and-forth battle just like the first, but in a three-minute burst, Boston College took a commanding 2-0 lead scoring twice within 2:44. The first goal was by Boston College's Benn Ferriero who took a puck off the near halfboards and fed it across the slot where Joe Rooney banged it past Jeff Zatkoff for his 14th goal of the year. Rooney picked up his second goal at 5:44, wrapping the puck around Zatkoff on a feed from Dan Bertram and Ben Smith. The RedHawks put up 12 shots in the period equaling BC's total in the frame, but couldn't sneak the puck by Eagle goaltender Cory Schneider.

Miami tried to get things started in the third period coming out with a jump, but the Boston College defense held the RedHawks at bay, giving up just 13 third-period shots. The Eagles added two more goals in the third period and went away with a 4-0 win.

Sophomore goaltender Jeff Zatkoff took the loss, his eighth of the year, stopping 29-of-33 shots on goal. This is the first time this season that the RedHawks have been shut out. Coincidently, the shutout prior to this was again Boston College and Schneider in last year's first-round match-up in the Northeast Regional.

NOTES: Boston College's power-play goal by Rooney at 5:44 ended a streak of 10 straight power plays killed off by Miami ... the RedHawks are 0-11-0 in game when trailing after two periods ... this is the second year in a row Miami has been eliminate by Boston College ... the RedHawks are now 2-3-0 all-time versus the Eagles.
