POST-GAME QUOTES - Xavier at Miami, Nov. 13, 2007
MIAMI COACH Charlie Coles:
"I know you want to talk about guys like (Tim) Pollitz, (Michael) Bramos and (Kenny) Hayes, but it was our other players who allow guys like that to play. It was a great, great team effort."
(What did he think when Bramos was fouled?) "Whoa, Christmas time! I'm thinking, `is that the best shot we can get?' And when I looked at the clock, I didn't realize there were only six seconds left. So, yeah, that was good ... that was good."
"Our game plan (coming out of the last timeout) was to get a good shot, hopefully Tim Pollitz. Or, get the ball to Tim, and let's play off of Tim. Because when we do that, then that's good. Tim, down low, requires more than one guy to guard him. And so that kind of frees someone up to shoot the ball."
XAVIER COACH SEAN MILLER:
"Miami is a good basketball team. They had a great crowd behind them tonight. And being down 11 points at home is not an easy thing to come back and win, and they did it. In the second half, from the 12-minute mark on, they were clearly the better team. On our end, that's disappointing. Tim Pollitz is an excellent player. We didn't have an answer for him, especially in the second half. The addition of Kenny Hayes really has helped their team, and he was a big part of the reason they beat us."
(On the last play of the game) "You can live and die with the kind of shot they were going to have to make from about 23 feet out. You never, under any circumstance, foul the shooter out of a zone defense when a guy takes a desperation shot. That obviously was one of many plays, but I'll give Miami credit for a job well done."
Tim Pollitz:
(On Kenny Hayes) "Kenny was huge for us. He's such a versatile player. He's got the ability to shoot outside. Then, he also has the ability to rise up off the dribble."
Michael Bramos:
"I thought our crowd was huge tonight. They were loud the whole game, even when we were down by 11. Part of the victory goes to them, too. We definitely fed off their energy tonight." (On his game-winning free throw shots) "I have confidence in my free-throw shooting. I just go to the line expecting to make it, no matter what the situation. Right about when I was in mid-air was when he hit my arm. I wasn't anticipating the foul."
Kenny Hayes:
"I was so nervous at the beginning of the game, and I missed a few of my first shots. Michael and Tim told me to keep my confidence with my shooting, and that's what I did. I know how big of a rivalry it is between Miami and Xavier."
