NASHVILLE--A 39-yard field goal by junior place kicker Nathan Parseghian gave Miami University's football team (4-5) a 13-10 lead with 10:20 remaining in the third quarter, but Vanderbilt touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters lifted the Commodores (5-3) to a 24-13 win on Saturday afternoon at Vanderbilt Stadium.
After a Vanderbilt touchdown on its first possession--a 1-yard run by Jeff Jennings--Miami had two career-long scoring strikes to hand the RedHawks a 10-7 lead.
Junior place kicker Nathan Parseghian nailed a career-long 42-yard field goal with 25 seconds remaining in the first quarter to put the RedHawks within four points of the Commodores, 7-3.
A 40-yard touchdown reception by true freshman wide receiver Jamal Rogers from sophomore quarterback Daniel Raudabuagh with 6:16 remaining in the second quarter put the RedHawks up 10-7 after the Parseghian PAT.
Vanderbilt evened the score when Bry Hahnfeldt hit a 26-yard field goal with 16 seconds remaining in the half to leave the game knotted 10-10 heading into the final 30 minutes of play.
Parseghian gave Miami a 13-10 lead at the 10:20 mark of the third quarter, hitting a 39-yard field goal. Vanderbilt, however, would take its first lead since the first quarter off a 2-yard touchdown run by Chris Nickson with 4:54 remaining in the third quarter to hand the Commodores a 17-13 edge.
The Commodores padded their lead on a 15-yard rushing touchdown by Cassen Jackson-Garrison with 6:46 to play to increase their advantage to 24-13, which would remain the final tally.
Miami returns home to resume Mid-American Conference in a battle for the right to sit atop the MAC East Division when the RedHawks host the University at Buffalo at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Nathan Parseghian kicked a career-long 42-yard field goal with 25 seconds remaining in the first half. It also was the longest field goal by a RedHawk this season. Parseghian also connected on a 39-yard attempt with 10:20 remaining in the third quarter.
True freshman wide receiver Jamal Rogers hauled in a 40-yard reception in the second quarter for his first career touchdown. It also was his longest catch of the season, nearly quadrupling his previous career-long reception of 12 yards.
Miami caused turnovers on three consecutive Vanderbilt possessions, spanning from the first to second quarters. Sophomore defensive back Jordan Gafford had an interception in the end zone, sophomore defensive lineman Martin Channels recovered a fumble and redshirt freshman Brandon Stephens recovered a fumble on Commodore kickoff return. It was Stephens' first career fumble recovery. Redshirt freshman Sean Redwine also recovered a fumble with 11:19 remaining in the game.
Following the Miami field goal and after a solid Vanderbilt return, Jordan Gafford came up with a critical pass break up in the end zone and a huge solo stop on the next play to put the Commodores at third and 23 after a Vanderbilt penalty. On the next defensive series, Gafford intercepted a pass in the end zone, his first interception of the season and the second of his career.
Sophomore quarterback Daniel Raudabaugh racked up 212 passing yards, completing 18-of-37 attempts. It was his third straight game with 200 or more yards passing and his fifth game eclipsing 200 passing yards this season.
The lone player on the Miami roster to hail from the state of Tennessee, junior wide receiver Jared Elliott earned the start and had a team-high-tying four receptions for 25 yards.
Vanderbilt takes a 2-1 lead in the all-time series.
Along with one of Miami's tri-captains Joey Hudson, senior defensive lineman Craig Mester and senior offensive linemen Steve Meister and Charlie Norden were today's game captains.
