Men's Swimming Drops Dual Meet to Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- Miami University's men's swimming and diving team fell to the Louisville Cardinals in a dual meet on Friday evening. Miami (1-2) earned first-place finishes from senior Paul Ricard and junior Chris Heaton, but the Cardinals pulled out a 182.5-112.5 win.
Miami opened with a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay and junior Scott DuCharme and freshman Darin Smith finished in second and third in the 1000 freestyle to get the RedHawks off to a solid start.
After a third place finish by sophomore Dave Brown in the 200 freestyle, Louisville finished 1-2-3 in the 100 backstroke and the 100 breaststroke. Louisville registered another 1-2 finish in the 200 butterfly, but senior Ryan McHugh broke the Louisville streak with a time of 21.32 to finish in second place in the 50 freestyle.
Heaton followed McHugh with a victory in one-meter diving, before McHugh touched the wall second in the 100 freestyle.
Louisville recorded another series of 1-2-3 finishes in the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke before Ricard touched the wall first in a time of 4:34.52 to win the 500 freestyle.
After another 1-2-3 finish by Louisville in the 100 butterfly, Heaton registered another win in three-meter diving, while freshman Ian Ballard finished third in the event.
Miami recorded a series of wins in the 400 individual medley and the 400 freestyle relay, but it wasn't enough as Louisville won the dual meet.
Miami competes at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Nixon Aquatic Center when the Red and White host Xavier.
