Box Score

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.--Miami University's volleyball team rallied from a two-game deficit (25-30, 16-30), seizing a thrilling 34-32 game-three win, only to fall in the fourth game, 22-30, at Marshall University on Tuesday evening. The RedHawks dropped to 3-4 on the season, while the Thundering Herd improved to 3-5.

Marshall collected the first three points of the first game, but Miami rattled off five straight points, including two blocks by junior outside hitter Jeanna Staun and sophomore outside hitter Emily Schroeder and a service ace by sophomore libero Melissa Zenz, to take a 5-3 lead. The Thundering Herd came back and built a 14-11 lead, but two kills by Staun helped the RedHawks even the score, 14-14. Another Staun kill would even the game, 15-15, but the Thundering Herd retaliated with two kills to take the lead for good and went on to the 30-25 win in the first game.

In the second game, Marshall used a 5-0 surge to capture a 16-8 lead. After a kill by junior middle hitter Carli Reihman, the Thundering Herd went on a 4-0 run to push their lead to 20-9. Kills by freshman outside/middle hitter Megan Griffin, Schroeder and Staun put the RedHawks within 10 points, 14-24. Marshall outscored Miami 6-2 down the stretch to claim the 30-16 game-two win.

Kills by Staun and Reihman and a block by Reihman and freshman middle hitter Hallie Hanks handed Miami a quick 4-2 lead. Marshall came back with an 8-1 run to post a 10-5 lead. Trailing 10-17, Miami began to chip away at the Thundering Herd lead. Three kills from Schroeder, two from Reihman and a block by Staun and Griffin helped the RedHawks capture the 22-20 advantage. Marshall came back to post a 29-26 lead, but Miami refused to relent. With game point on the line, Reihman hammered a kill and served up an ace, while Schroeder and Griffin knocked down a block to even the score, 29-29. Trailing 31-32, Hanks put down a kill, Schroeder and Reihman came up with a block and Reihman hammered home a kill for the 34-32 game-three win.

The teams practically traded points throughout much of the fourth game, with neither team leading by more than three points until Marshall used a 10-1 run to capture the match with the 30-22 game-four win.
