Field Hockey Drops 1-0 Decision to Ohio

Sept. 23, 2006

Box Score

ATHENS, Ohio -- One day after finding the back of the cage seven times versus Kent State in its Mid-American Conference opener, the Miami University field hockey team saw its prolific offensive attack stymied by a stingy Ohio University squad in a 1-0 defeat. Despite controlling the pace of play late in the second half and threatening to score on a number of occasions, the RedHawks could not solve sophomore goalkeeper Jessie Martin, who was aided by a strong team defensive effort.

Ohio's Estienne Coetzee broke a scoreless tie with just under five minutes remaining in the first half when her shot from the top right of the circle found its way behind Miami goalkeeper Megan Stengel (Louisville, Ky.) for a 1-0 Bobcat lead.

Following the lone blemish on her record for the afternoon, Stengel remained strong in the cage, holding the Bobcats at bay while the RedHawks attempted to mount a comeback.

Ohio outshot Miami 8-3 and held a 7-2 edge in penalty corners. All three Miami shots were attempted by junior Alyssa Nye (Bernville, Pa.), who tallied three goals in Friday's 7-4 win over Kent State.

NOTES: Miami returns home on Sept. 29-30 when it hosts California and Central Michigan ... Miami is now 4-6 overall and 1-1 in conference action ... Ohio improved its record to 5-5 and is now 2-0 in MAC play.
