Miami Drops Game One of Series to Kent State

KENT, Ohio - The Miami University baseball team managed just three hits on Friday afternoon and dropped an 11-0 decision to the Kent State Golden Flashes in game one of a three-game Mid-American Conference series. The loss dropped Miami to 17-19 overall and 6-7 in conference action.
Kent State Put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the first inning off Miami sophomore John Ely (Homewood, Ill.) to take a 2-0 lead. Leadoff batter Emmanuel Burriss reached base after being hit by a pitch and scored two batters later when Drew Saylor.
The Golden Flashes added four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as they collected four hits in the inning, including a two-out two-run inside-the-park home run by Burriss, to jump in front 6-0.
A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth made Kent State's lead 7-0 before the Golden Flashes added three more in the seventh and chased Ely from the game in favor of sophomore Steve Antoniotti (Farmington Hills, Mich.).
Kent State added a run in the eight to finish the scoring at 11-0.
Ely was tagged with the loss and saw his record drop to 4-2 on the season, while Chad Wagler picked up the win for Kent State and improved to 6-3.
Miami and Kent State play game two of the series on Saturday at 1 p.m. Senior Graham Taylor (Villa Hills, Ky.) is slated to start on the mound for Miami.
NOTES: FR Blake Chaffee had his first collegiate at-bat, pinch hitting in the ninth inning and registering a single.
