OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University RedHawks (13-10) extended their home winning streak to three games as they pounded out 12 hits in a 9-4 win over the Muskingum College Fighting Muskies (10-7) on Wednesday afternoon at McKie Field. The Muskies compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference (NCAA III).
Senior Paul Frietch's (Cincinnati, Ohio) two-out double to right centerfield gave the RedHawks a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Geoff Orr (Orland Park, Ill.) scored from second on Frietch's fourth double of the season.
With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, junior Eric Radley (Hermitage, Tenn.) blasted his first home run as a RedHawk, deep over the leftfield wall, giving Miami a 2-0 lead.
In Muskingum's half of the fourth inning, first baseman Nathan Prati gave the Muskies their first lead of the game with a three-run home run off Miami freshman Steve Antoniotti (Farmington Hills, Mich.). Prati's long ball came after the first two batters of the inning reached base.
Miami pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead, 4-3. Radley grounded out to first base, driving in junior Jason Brown (Fairfield, Ohio), who tripled with one out in the inning. Senior Courtney Campbell (Evansville, Ind.) singled to left after Radley's RBI groundout and scored when sophomore Ryne Robinson (Toledo, Ohio) tripled to left centerfield.
Senior Brad Bachman (Cincinnati, Ohio) relieved Antoniotti in the top of the fifth inning after Antoniotti went 4.0 innings and allowed three runs on six hits and struck of five.
The RedHawks took a three-run lead in the bottom of the fifth as Brown hit his first home run of the season. His two-run shot to left field came with Frietch on second base, who singled and stole second.
Muskingum touched Bachman for an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning, cutting Miami's lead to two runs.
Miami took a four-run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored a pair of unearned runs off Muskingum's Cory Williams. The first run scored on a single to left field by Orr and the second run came across when Muskingum's leftfielder dropped a fly ball, allowing Orr to score from second.
Miami finished the scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning when Brown scored from third on a wild pitch by Muskingum's Cory Williams. Brown advanced to third on a stolen base after he doubled with one out in the inning.
Bachman picked up the victory to move his season record to 1-0 as he went 2.0 innings and surrendered one run on one hit.
The RedHawks return to Mid-American Conference action at home on Friday as they kick off a three-game series with the Thundering Herd from Marshall University at 3 p.m. Sophomore lefthander Keith Weiser (Hamilton, Ohio) is slated to start Friday's game for the RedHawks.
Notes: JR SS Eric Radley and JR CF Jason Brown each hit their first home run of the season ... Matt Long made his second appearance of the season after having Tommy John surgery during the 2004 season ... Jason Brown needed a single to hit for the cycle.
