OXFORD, Ohio (AP) - Danny Horace scored 17 points and Chet Mason narrowly missed a triple-double in Miami's 71-61 victory over Central Michigan on Wednesday.
Mason finished with 15 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists for the RedHawks (8-4, 3-1 Mid-American), who connected on 10 of 26 3-pointers. Josh Hausfeld made five 3s and scored 15 points.
Kevin Nelson had a game-high 21 points and Drew Walker added 10 for Central Michigan (6-7, 1-4).
Tony Bowne hit a 3-pointer to give the Chippewas a 15-8 lead early but Miami responded with a 10-0 run. Monty St. Clair had five points during the spurt.
St. Clair had all 11 of his points in the first half as the RedHawks led 37-33 at halftime.
Miami used a 9-2 run to take control early in the second half. Horace got it started with a 3-pointer to put the RedHawks in front 42-39. Hausfeld added another 3, Mason made a jumper and Horace made 1-of-2 from the free-throw line to make it 48-41 with 12:10 remaining.
Miami has won nine straight and 20 of its last 21 games against Central Michigan. The RedHawks lead the all-time series 41-16.
