RedHawks Shut Out At Ohio State, 4-0

Sept. 10, 2004

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Miami field hockey team lost a 4-0 contest on Friday afternoon at Ohio State as it finishes its season-opening five-game road stretch with a 2-3 record. The Buckeyes scored twice in both periods as they shutout the Red and White with a 25-8 shot advantage.

Florencia Stier broke open the scoring at the 23:43 mark in the first half with an unassisted goal that bounced off the pads of senior goalie Kerri Orr. A little over four minutes later and Ohio State had its lead upped to 2-0 when Curlynne Wynn scored her first of two goals at 27:58.

Miami held the Buckeye offense at bay for the remainder of the first half as Orr stopped seven shots in the opening frame. The Buckeyes also held a slim advantage in penalty corners in the first half, 3-2.

However, the Buckeyes improved their lead to a three-goal advantage when Wynn found the back of the net for the second time at 65:17. Yesenia Luces added an unneeded insurance goal on a penalty corner with zero time remaining in regulation to bring the game to its final, 4-0.

Orr finished the contest with 12 saves and four goals allowed. Freshman Taylor Florence led the offense with three shots.

Miami's next game is its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 12, at noon against Appalachian State University.
