AKRON, Ohio (AP) - John Hollingsworth gave Akron the lead for the final time and Romeo Travis added two free throws with three seconds left to preserve a 48-44 victory over Miami of Ohio on Wednesday night.

The teams were tied for the eighth and final time when Chet Mason hit a jump shot for Miami (12-8, 8-4 Mid-American Conference) with 1:17 remaining.

Hollingsworth then followed with a three-point play with 53 seconds left and the Zips (11-10, 5-8) never trailed again. After Miami's Danny Horace hit a pair of foul shots with 26 seconds left, Akron's Andy Hipsher made the second of two free throws at the 17-second mark for a 46-44 lead.

William Hatcher missed a layup in traffic for Miami that would have tied the game, with Travis fouled on the rebound. He then made both shots, with Juby Johnson missing a long 3-pointer at the buzzer.

No Akron player hit double figures, with Jeremiah Wood scoring eight points and Hollingsworth adding seven.
